Yearbook Cover Contest

Calling all Bobcats! Pull out your paintbrushes, brush off your crayon box, and sharpen those drawing pencils—We're inviting ALL students to participate in the 2025/26 Yearbook Cover Contest.

2026 Theme: Leaping into the Future

As Blackwell Bobcats, we're excited for what the future brings. Each day is an opportunity for new experiences, and we're ready to take them on! We celebrate every sucess - big and small - together as we work towards our future of limitless potential.

Creative Guidance:

  • You can use any medium (i.e., pen, paint, collage, computer graphics, etc.) to bring your idea to life.

  • All designs should be submitted 8.5 in x 11 in portrait format.

  • Include the school name, school year, and theme in the design.

  • Text should be at least 1 inch from the border. When choosing the medium, ensure it's dark enough to be scanned.

  • Make it colourful! Avoid leaving a lot of whitespace.

  • Do not include the artist's name on the cover design. Instead, please clearly print your name, grade, and class on the back of the paper using a pencil to ensure the ink does not show through to the front side.

Selection Process:

All students will have their artwork displayed in the cover contest gallery. 10 finalists will be selected to move on to class voting based on:

  • Creative representation of the theme
  • Attention to detail (Parents, please help your student by reviewing work for spelling errors, etc.)
  • Bobcat branding (use of bobcat and school colors)

Submission deadline:

All entries are due March 13, 2026. Please drop off your artwork to Ms. Cherian in the library.

Selection Process:

The cover contest selection committee selects the top 12 finalists for class voting. Our selection committee will consist of three PTSA parent members, one staff representative, and one student leadership representative. Student covers will be evaluated on:

  • Creative representation of the theme (55%)
  • Attention to detail (35%)
  • Bobcat branding (10%)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use digital drawing programs?

A: Yes. All 2-D art forms are accepted, and students can use digital drawing programs (e.g., MS Paint, etc.) The goal is to showcase creativity! However, the artwork showcased should be original. Students will not be awarded higher scores for neatness or creativity simply for using stock illustrations or photography. For this reason, we advise against the use of stock photography & illustrations. However, if you do choose to us them, these assets should be creatively manipulated. A great example is the work of Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup or Marilyn Monroe screenprints. Warhol manipulated the photography of others to create something that was uniquely his point of view.

Q: Can I submit multiple entries?
A: Competition entries are limited to 1 per student to ensure an equitable evaluation process. Students can turn in multiple designs to showcase in our cover art gallery; however, only one cover design will be eligible for the competition. If students turn in multiples, they should note which one they want to submit for the competition.
