Office of the Education Ombuds (OEO) – OEO promotes equity in education by working with families and schools to remove barriers so that every student can fully participate in, and benefit from, public education in the State of Washington. The organization aims to reduce the opportunity gap by supporting families, students, educators, and communities in understanding the public K-12 education system and resolving concerns collaboratively. OEO is independent from the public education system and is placed within the Governor's Office.

Bookshare is a fabulous, free service that offers popular e-books to students with learning disabilities. They make it easier for students with learning differences to read with powerful assistive reading features. Students can listen to books, follow with word-level highlighting, read in large text or braille, and customize their reading experience to learn in ways that work for them.

 

The Arc of King County

Founded in 1936, The Arc of King County advocates for the rights of children and adults with intellectual and development disabilities to live, work and play in the community - improving the quality of life for all of us. 1000+ families connect with The Arc through information and referral each year. 

 

CHADD - Improving the lives of people affected by ADHD

 

CHADD - Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) was founded in 1987 in response to the frustration and sense of isolation experienced by parents and their children with ADHD.ADHD is medically and legally recognized as a treatable yet potentially serious disorder, affecting up to nine percent of all children, and approximately four percent of adults.From one parent support group in Florida, the organization grew dramatically to become the leading non-profit national organization for children and adults with ADHD. The organization provides support, education and encouragement to parents, educators and professionals on a grassroots level through CHADD chapters.
